First solo show of NYC born artist Jan Lauren Greenfield at
The Ivy Brown Gallery 675 Hudson St, New York. Wednesday,
September 30th thru Saturday, October 10th, 2009
“NOW & THEN: Am I Too Young for a Retrospective?" featured as part of the New York City Food & Wine Festival.
The debut exhibition of Ms. Greenfield featured works spanning the past ten years of the emerging artist’s career.
The show was divided into two sections “Now” and “Then”. The former section containing recent works created while living
in Tel Aviv , Israel the later from her formative years in New York.
“I know cities. Growing up in New York provided me with a sort of innate ability to pick up on the pulse and rhythm of any city.
My aesthetic is heavily impacted by the city” says Ms. Greenfield. She continues, “A few years ago my work was more political,
more raw. I was concerned with making a statement, now beauty is what I want to create more of in the world.”
Her work draws on allusions from Duchamp to Woodstock, where the artist also has lived. Fourteen mixed media works
on canvas compose the show.
Ms. Greenfield studied Art and Literature at Middlebury College in Vermont and Glasgow University in Scotland.
She received her Master’s in Arts and Cultural Management at Pratt Institute in New York.
